I would absolutely like to give huge kuddos and accolades to all our members nation-wide, but especially to the Redding Club. I wholeheartedly believe our team is the greatest group of individuals between 21-39 in Redding and our team is growing with more talent each month.

We've built 6-figure playgrounds, put on huge fundraising events, and contributed so many hours to the children of Redding. So it is absolutely easy to give appreciation for our members... even though it's not why they do what they do! :-)

Personally, I first saw it in one of Lucky's updates that we were not on the list of clubs who had sent it in. I then asked the National Office for a roster and then hadn’t gotten it to our President yet. I then received an email the week it was due from you and focused on getting it to you.

Some people may just assume it is 'somoene elses job' and they will do it, when thats not really how it should work. We're all in this together. If you notice something needs to be done, and no one else is doing it... do it.

I don’t know if others clubs have the same dilemma, but our new president hadn’t been notified, but was listed on the roster properly and I assumed she was getting emails appropriately. I don’t always read through Lucky's updates,(I'm sorry Lucky).

We also had a break down in our own clubs communication where emails, phone calls and texts to board members were not being responded to.

I think it may simply be what a good friend told me the other day

I wonder if part of our fear of success is actually a fear of failure later. What if I can't repeat the success - I'm a one-hit-wonder or I can't maintain the level of greatness? What if my success raises expectations of me and I can't continually fulfill them?

We often forget, though, the failures "brilliant minds" had and only remember their successes. I guess in the end, we should work to excel at everything we attempt; memories are short and our successes will always outshine the stumbles we make along the way.

A crazy coincidence. At the luncheon, my mom recognized the last name of the girl being recognized for this project. It turns out my uncle (her brother) and Ambers dad were involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters together many many moons ago and have been close friends ever since. My uncle worked quite a bit on Amber's project and appears in a lot of her pictures - how'd I miss that!?!

I would much prefer any money spent on "trinkets" that I really don't need be spent to make more of a charitable impact. Knowing you, I'm sure there were tons of thank yous ALL DAY. That should be enough. However, YOU deserve a gold start for incorporating the word "snarky" into a post. :)

For me participation and being a part of something that signification is cool enough. Getting to stand on the field where the Super Bowl is a memory I would never forget and memory like that is invaluable.

But I do recognize and understand the flip-side.... do you think they wanted not so much a trinket as a gift, but rather a memento to remember their participation? Like a t-shirt of some kind... recognizing that they were there, they helped, and were a part of something cool? Kind of like with blood donations.... people will donate even if there's no t-shirt, but it is a nice gesture and something they can show to others.

I dunno, just some thoughts....

I never expect a "trinket", plaque, certificate, t-shirt, etc. If I get one...great. If no...so what. One idea we've used in the past is for the project chairs to write a short personal note on leftover posters or flyers (use metallic pens...they stand out best) for each volunteer. It takes a bit of time, but it's essentially free and a bit more personal than a generic trinket.

I like the quote and think that it is spot on. Instead of giving the words that perhaps someone would use to describe me, I will provide my thoughts on presenting yourself.

Just like the adage of "stereo-types are funny because they are true", I would add to the above comment to be "your reputation is the summation of peoples conversations as a reflection of your character" shines a more focused light. Since the only thing in this equation that you are able to control is your character; the chatter that surrounds you just amplify's who you are.

So, I just try to be the best me that I can be, and the rest will be as it should. (too cliche'??) it's ok... because it is who I am :)

It isn't my responsibility to make everyone happy, but I do need to own who I am and the decisions that I make.

Thanks Trena for mentioning our event among these many other great events by other clubs!

We in Redding would personally love to see the Big Race event we do annually spread to other clubs. It's one of our favorite events and involves kids aged from 1 to 8 building foot-powered race cars for a two-lap run at a track. The cars are built out of cardboard and some kids get pretty creative with their designs.

After the first lap we do a pit-stop where the kids change their tires (put on different shoes), refuel (drink water), and clean their windshield (sunglasses that we provide to all the kids get wiped down). At the of the "race" we do a winner's circle photo with each child and print the photo on-site for them to take home with a free trophy for all participants.
