5 Floors. Go.

I had lunch with a longtime friend and club mate today, Cory1. The conversation came back to the future of the club - who we want to become; who we want to serve beside us; and where we see our biggest impact being.

I know these are questions every club (and most businesses) should continually remind themselves. We cannot be all things to all people, so what are we?

Most members nationally have cast aside the "drinking club with a charity problem" moniker of years ago.

When I listen to members - locally, regionally and nationally - I hear a lot of talk about the activities we do. The 5:01 socials. The interclub play. The service projects that fill varied needs in the lives of countless children. The networking and professional growth. The personal growth as a leader.

Active 20-30 is so many things to so many people. Agree? Agree.

With that said, how do YOU describe this organization that you give your time, talents and treasures to?

More importantly, does it sound anything like what your fellow club members say? What happens if you're telling the service story and I'm telling the party one?

So, I'm wondering, how do you introduce the club to someone who isn't familiar with it? Does it depend on the setting you're in?

Pretend you're in an elevator. You're chatting with a guy and he says: 'What's this 20-30 thing?' The elevator doors close and you have 5 floors. What do you say?

I invite you to share your 'pitch' in the comments.

  1. We raise money for local children's charities, then use that money to fund hands-on events in the community or as grants paid directly to local charities. We're all between the ages of 20 and 39 (so, we're in our 20's or 30's), and we usually have a lot of fun raising the money. Here's my card if you'd like more information...
