You Did This!

What a fantastic question: "Is there anyone who inspired you and made you who you are today?"

I hope you stop right here and think about the people who had an impact on you along the way - perhaps a teacher, an honorary uncle, or even a stranger.

The first comment on the thread took my breath away. How sad that a child knew her family was too poor to buy her school clothes. I can only imagine what that level of awareness does to a child.

But, on the other hand, what a boost and a blessing to be given the things you most need without any fanfare or price tag! I hope that I can recognize families like Elizabeth's in my community and would be generous enough to do something as small as leaving clothes quietly on a doorstep.

I'm afraid that I overlook too many. I'm afraid that I don't have the resources to help everyone.

It's the same for the organizations I work with and the people I serve beside. We all want to do more. We all see the need to do more. And, ultimately, we do what we can.

No matter the problems we set out to tackle. No matter the number of kids that we clothe, feed or read to. No matter the amount of money we raise, spend or grant. No matter how much more we wish we could do, we have changed someone's life in some way.

I can only hope that someone months or years from now can say that their life was different and that they were inspired by a "quiet favor" of a stranger who cared.

So... who has inspired you or made you who you are today?
